At The Loving Touch in downtown Ferndale, Kimball takes the stage to close out a night of awesome local acts. Comprised of vocalist and guitarist Austin McCaulley, vocalist Emily Barr, drummer Brodie Glaza, and guitarist Jack Mullen, along with bassist Sam Fraser and saxophonist Joseph Dugan on the night, the group creates walls of washed out folk-infused rock that envelopes the listener.

Reminiscent of early Bon Iver, The Head and the Heart, or Bombay Bicycle Club, Kimball crafts luscious and earthy songs that range from swirling anthems to easy-listening, roadtrip friendly jams. Their songs utilize simple progressions which Austin colors cleverly with extended chord voicings. Jack throws in some snarl and depth with huge reverbed-out textures. Together, Emily and Austin weave easily hummable yet wandering melodies, taking turns singing lead and adding harmony. Brodie gives immense shape to the songs by building and dropping skillfully and tastefully adds heaps of energy to the performance engaging to the point of standing to play, then knocking over a cymbal. Sam keeps everything grounded and smooth by locking in with Brodie. When the group builds to a head Joseph took over the song with tasty runs and grew instrumental sections to a head.

Kimball brings you into their beautiful world of folk vibes and cascades of color, and it feels good to be there. Check out their music on all major streaming services and get out to their next show. Your ears will thank you.
